Diving at Playas del Coco (Coco Beach)

Playas del Coco is located in the Gulf of Papagayo, in the North Pacific of Costa Rica . This region is one of the top dive destinations in Costa Rica . The presence of numerous islands and rocky outcrops in this area can offer a variety of diving adventures for all levels. There are about 20 diving points which are between 10 and 20 minutes by boat.

 

The presence of nutrient-rich water attracts a variety of marine life like whip tail stingrays white tip reef sharks, big schools of grunts and snappers, angel fish, snapper, nudibranchs, goliath groupers , moray eels and hundreds of fishes.

Among the types of marine environments found include volcanic rocks, rocky pinnacles, long rows of rocks, rock walls between channels and coral sand . In addition there are some points that offer wreck diving.
The maximum depth varies from place to place going from 30 to100 feet.

Diving conditions are generally good all year round with an average visibility of 15-60 feet. (5-18 meters).
The water temperature averages throughout the year of 80 º F (26 º C ) with peaks up to 85 º F (30 º C) from June to August and drops in temperature to 65 ° F (20 ° C) during the months of December to March.
